The Katahdin Area Council, Scouting America, is built on the dedication and spirit of its volunteers. Every troop meeting, campout, and service project begins with someone who chooses to make a difference. Our volunteers bring the Scout Oath and Law to life—helping young people grow into confident, capable, and compassionate leaders.

Across northern and eastern Maine, nearly 1,200 adults serve as mentors, Scoutmasters, committee members, and event organizers for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring programs. They’re the ones teaching knots and kindness, outdoor skills and self-reliance, teamwork and trust.

Whether you’re a lifelong Scout, a parent, or simply someone who believes in building stronger communities, volunteering with the Katahdin Area Council means joining a family committed to adventure, service, and leadership. Your time and enthusiasm can spark a lifetime of learning for youth in your community—and you might discover a few new skills yourself along the way.
