Getting Started with Scouting in the Katahdin Area Council
Scouting is a fun, hands-on way for youth to learn new skills, make friends, and grow into leaders. Here’s how to get your Scout started in northern Maine:
1.
Find a local unit
Visit the Be A Scout website and search by your zipcode to find units near you.
2.
Contact unit leaders
Reach out to the leaders of the unit(s) you’re interested in. Ask about meeting times, locations, activities, and any questions you have about joining.
3.
Attend a meeting or event
Arrange to visit a meeting, campout, or activity to see if it’s a good fit for your child. Meet the leaders, Scouts, and other parents — each unit has its own personality, so check out more than one if possible.
4.
Complete a youth application
Fill out the Youth Application form, which can be downloaded from the link below or obtained directly from the unit leader.
Turn in the completed application to your unit leader. Pay the registration fee, which varies by unit. There may also be additional costs for uniforms, activities, or trips.
