About the Katahdin Area Council
Since 1920, the Katahdin Area Council (KAC) has been helping youth across northern Maine grow, learn, and have fun. Scouts of all ages develop confidence, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships through hands-on programs, outdoor adventures, and community service.
KAC partners with local schools, community organizations, and families to create opportunities for Scouts to explore, serve, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.
Our Camps
Camp Roosevelt – Located at the Katahdin Scout Reserve in Eddington, Maine, Camp Roosevelt provides a safe and fun environment where Scouts can enjoy traditional Scouting programs, learn outdoor skills, and experience summer adventures.
Maine High Adventure Base – Set in the Northern Maine Woods at Grand Lake Matagamon, this camp challenges older Scouts and youth leaders with exciting wilderness experiences, leadership development, and high-adventure programs.
With programs and camps like these, KAC gives every Scout a chance to explore the outdoors, build skills, serve their community, and grow as a leader.
Our Mission
Since August 1920, the Katahdin Area Council’s mission has been:
“To serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential.”
Our Vision
KAC envisions Scouting America as the nation’s premier youth program for character development and values-based leadership. Our goal is to continue providing programs that:
- Offer youth responsible fun, adventure, and learning opportunities.
- Instill lifetime values and cultivate ethical character, as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law.
- Train youth in citizenship, service, and leadership.
- Serve communities and families with high-quality, values-based programs.
Through this mission and vision, KAC empowers Scouts to grow as individuals, contribute to their communities, and embrace opportunities that shape them into responsible, ethical leaders.
