Leave No Trace
Master Educator Course
Spend a week in northern Maine, paddling at Maine
High Adventure and hiking in Baxter State Park, practicing Leave
No Trace and learning techniques for teaching the Leave No Trace
principles. The Boy Scouts of America is excited to offer a
Leave No Trace Master Educator Course hosted at Maine High
Adventure in August, when the water has warmed up and the bugs
are (mostly) gone. The purpose of this course is to teach
advanced levels of Leave No Trace practices, ethics, and
teaching skills to individuals interested in conducting Leave No
Trace training within their local Districts and Councils. This
valuable training is recognized throughout the world by the
outdoor industry, land management agencies and the outdoor
recreation community. Successful graduates of the Leave No Trace
Master Educator Course have the ability to train others in Leave
No Trace skills through a variety of formal courses and
workshops and informally in outdoor settings. Councils are
encouraged to send several representatives who are ready to
support the Boy Scouts of America’s Leave No Trace Outdoor
Ethics program.
Who:
Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing leaders involved in training
and outdoor programs who are interested in learning more about
Leave No Trace principles and will actively work to teach others
about Leave No Trace.
When:
Training will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18th and
conclude in the afternoon of Saturday, August 23rd.
Where:
Maine High Adventure, on beautiful Grand Lake Matagamon,
adjacent to Baxter State Park in northern Maine.
Cost:
TBD
($275
or less)
– which includes lodging at the base camp and camping fees for
nights on the trail, all meals from Sunday evening through
Friday lunch, course materials, and a 1 year membership with
Leave No trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Registration does not
include transportation.
We will provide assistance in
arranging for carpools to the base as needed.
Space is limited to 12
participants and space will be allocated to qualified
participants on a first come first served basis. We hope to
include participants from a variety of councils, especially
those who are ready to work on spreading information about Leave
No Trace as it applies to the wide range of BSA outdoor
activities.
